Located in the tranquil countryside of Paredes de Coura, this rural tourism project revitalizes a historic granite ruin into a sustainable and inviting retreat. The design honours the site's heritage by restoring the original stone structure and integrating a modest extension with locally sourced, low–impact materials. Guided by Passive House principles, the project maximizes natural light, solar gain, and ventilation to reduce energy use while ensuring comfort. The main house, now hosting eight rental rooms, features a dual–wall system—traditional stone outside and high–performance materials inside—streamlining construction through prefabrication. A timber roof extension subtly blends modernity with rural character. Outdoor elements such as gardens, terraces, and a pool are sensitively placed to follow the terrain. The project fuses tradition and ecological innovation, offering a unique, nature–connected hospitality experience.
